Mezzanine Deck Sun Pad MSD

Enter the world's first Power Catamaran 'Mezzanine Level (Aft) Sun Pad' MSD!

An extraordinary 'super yacht' experience on a 58ft yacht!

With the huge 8 metre full beam and fully usable deck space for which Ekokat is so renowned, glancing at only the rear half of the yacht you could easily believe you are looking at the rear section of a 120ft superyacht. A truly remarkable sun worshippers paradise (with all areas able to be covered from direct sun using the solar panel retract system and kite shades.

'What the others do...'

Very rarely do power catamarans have aft (the rear of the boat) sunpads, as most yacht brands seem to deem it beneficial to have hydraulic platforms to lower and raise the small tender boat into the water, therefore assuming there is no space for an aft sun pad.

Ekokat are not like the others of course, and openly disagree quite strongly. We consider that such hydraulic platforms are  just more 'big and expensive' things that can go wrong (at critical times when you don't want it); take up too much space; are an over engineered design that is not realistically needed, and consequently a completely unnecessary cost. It is very quick and easy to lower and raise a tender using simple electronic winch system with fail safe. In fact it is quicker, certainly far less expensive, and far less likely to go wrong.

(The same principal applies to hydraulic bathing platforms. Click here to see the Ekokat Beach Club solution)

EkoKat's 'middle name' is innovation, however we are not big supporters of 'expensive hydraulic luxuries' that can quite

simply go wrong and fail (and they do...), in this case block the view and prohibit a sun pad, and an unnecessary expensive!

Is it not far more logical, easier, more cost effective and more desirable, to have simple electronic (and manual back up)

winch to lower the dinghy into the water (in less than 1 minute)  allowing for a magnificent sun pad

and place to relax out of the wind?

Out of the wind and waves

Very importantly, the tender is something that requires lowering and lifting into the water once or twice during the day (and if on anchor), Ekokat feel the daytime areas for relaxation are far more important to the guest. We go to great lengths to ensure Ekokat has multiple exterior spaces for both relaxing in the sun (or shade) and dining and entertaining, offering the bow, flybridge and aft cockpit of the yacht to cover all weather conditions.

The foredeck on the bow of the boat (click here

to see EkoKat's incredibly appointed lounge on

the bow) is a wonderful place to relax, especially on

an Ekokat, but given the boat it will always be facing

into wind, can on occasions not be suitable.

There can be nothing worse that too much wind

or a chill in the air. Likewise when under way if

the waves a bit high, you can get wet.

'Lounge on the Bow'

Great fun when its

not too windy

EkoKat's MSD is elevated up 2.5 metres (8ft) from the sea level and offers a wonderful view down over the ocean. Not only that it can be accessed easily from the flybridge as well as the cockpit on the main deck.

'Chalk & Cheese'

There really is no comparison when it comes to sheer space and areas for relaxation. Full-Beam (width) EkoKat seen here with it's MSD, up against another mid-50's power catamaran

Configurations and Safety:

Safety comes first with the EkoKat super yacht style 'Sundeck Club'

It is recommended that the flybridge step access to the MSD is only used when at anchor.

A lockable 'gate' prevents access from the flybridge when small children are on-board.

Both the upper and lower steps have additional and quick release removable outer railings, if extra guidance is desired.

Both steps are at an extended angle/slope for perceived and actual ease of use.

The cockpit space and privacy

With Mediterranean 'stern-too' parking in particular, cockpit privacy in the marina can often be a consideration.

This can be another reason for having a tender dinghy or even a screen hanging to obstruct the view in whilst guest are

dining in this space.

By default the EkoKat MSD provides this privacy and guests can wine and dine and relax shielded from onlookers.
